| The celebration is in conjunction with this year’s Golden Anniversary of Malaysia’s Independence. The Malaysian American community proudly presents this historical event for the very first time in Chicago. The Malaysian Students’ Department, Midwest Region, Chicago in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia and the Malaysian Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage are the primary sponsors of this event. Others like the Malaysian Club of Chicago, Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA), Tourism Malaysia, Malaysian Airlines and Friends of Malaysia (Peace Corp to Malaysia) contributed to the establishment of the proclamation as a historic event. Besides the Deputy Chief of Staff from Mayor Daley’s office, guests from the Illinois Secretary of State, the Governor’s office and Cook County Treasurer’s office will be present. The program, from 1.30 pm to 2.30pm, will include cultural performances featuring traditional Malaysian dances, patriotic songs and music. Malaysia, ‘Truly Asia’ is a multi-ethnic, multi- religious and multi-cultural nation comprising primarily of Malays, Chinese, Indians and others. During the late 18th and 19th centuries, Great Britain established colonies and protectorates in the area of current Malaysia. The British-ruled territories on the Malay Peninsula formed the Federation of Malaya, which received its independence on August 31st, 1957. Not only has Malaysia targeted to become one of Asia’s hub of educational excellence, but it also aims to be the economic and “halal” hub of the region with its high quality and skilled labor, rich natural resources, fast-paced technological development and a shopping haven for tourists. The Malaysian Community invites you to be a part of this free historic event, and be introduced to a country that exemplifies diversity, community and unity. As the saying goes, ‘To Know Malaysia is to Love Malaysia’. Contact: Malaysian Student Department Office: (847) 328-2440 Asian Noodle House 844 N.
